Light & Power: A Tesla/Edison Story

Light & Power: A Tesla/Edison StoryI wrote the libretto for the chamber opera, Light & Power: A Tesla/Edison Story, about a gender-bent Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison’s rivalry during the War of the Currents. I collaborated with composer, Isaac Schankler, who composed the music (which is amazing). It was commissioned by the Boston Opera Collaborative, and performed by the Juventas Music Ensemble in Boston, who went on to win the American Prize in Opera Performance for Light & Power. Most recently, excerpts were performed at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. I have adapted the libretto into a play, and I’m converting the story into a lyric novel. “Zoology No. 1,” a poem featured in the lyric novel, was selected by Mary Karr as a finalist and published in Flatmancrooked’s Slim Volume of Contemporary Poetics. You can watch clips of the opera here:
